Update for Annie Jamison And A Picture of Her Son, William

Following up on my recent post about the two Williams, I’ve received some great additional snippets of information for both William Junior and his mother, Annie. Continue reading Update for Annie Jamison And A Picture of Her Son, William

A Tale of Two Williams – A Father & Son Who Died within 4 Years of Each Other

With the arrival of the third UK COVID lockdown, 2021 is offering unique opportunities to catch up with outstanding family history blog posts. One that’s been on my to-do list for quite a while is the timeline of my long-lived great-grandfather, William McDowell Jamison, compared with his namesake son William Jamison, who sadly died in 1935 aged just 37. William Senior outlived his son, dying … Continue reading A Tale of Two Williams – A Father & Son Who Died within 4 Years of Each Other

Updates to The Family Tree – William and Betty Jamison Descendants and the Cousins Family

My second cousin Shirlene (I think that’s right – our paternal grandfathers were brothers?) has been good enough to fill in some gaps and correct some names and dates on our shared family tree. I’m always really grateful when people take time out to get in touch and help build our tree – without your kind input, it would be little more than a family … Continue reading Updates to The Family Tree – William and Betty Jamison Descendants and the Cousins Family

Annie Hewer, A Lead Miner’s Daughter

Following up an earlier clue from the 1901/1911 census records that my great-grandmother Annie Jamison nee Hewer was born in England, together with information provided by Nevin at NALIL that Annie’s son Oswald Hewer Jamison was born in Cumbria I was able to locate a birth certificate for Annie from 1874 from the General Register’s office online. Annie would thus have been 21 when her son … Continue reading Annie Hewer, A Lead Miner’s Daughter

Updating the Family Tree – William McDowell Jamison’s Parents, Date & Place of Birth

Fantastic source of North Antrim genealogy info and all-round great guy Nevin Taggart from the North Antrim Local Interest blog contacted me in July (I know, I’ve got a backlog of blog posts to thrash out!) with some exciting news for this site; he had located a baptism record for my paternal great-grandfather William McDowell Jamison. Up to this point, William was as far back … Continue reading Updating the Family Tree – William McDowell Jamison’s Parents, Date & Place of Birth

Welcome to Jennifer!

“Only connect!” (E.M. Forster) This is a follow-up post to last week’s Filling In Some Gaps post; it’s just to say thank you to Jennifer, who is my great uncle William’s great-granddaughter; it’s beyond me to work out the actual relationship, but I think it’s second cousin removed once or twice! But more importantly than degrees of relationship, it’s been great to meet a fellow … Continue reading Welcome to Jennifer!

Filling in some gaps – new information on the descendants of William McDowell Jamison

I had some very exciting news yesterday courtesy of Nevin over at NALIL; Nevin put me and my cousin Barbara in touch with Jennifer, who is a great, great grand-daughter of William McDowell Jamison, the earliest Jamison I’ve managed to trace in our family tree. Jennifer and Nevin have provided loads of information for my descendent chart, and I hope we gave some to Jennifer in … Continue reading Filling in some gaps – new information on the descendants of William McDowell Jamison

Oswald Hewer Jamison – born in England?

I’m following up a lead from Nevin from NALIL, who located an entry for an Oswald Hewer (as a surname rather than a middle name), born 1895, in Wigton, Cumbria. The birth date fits with my grandfather’s brother’s estimated birth. I believe that Oswald’s mother was English; this may be that the reason we haven’t located William and Annie’s marriage certificate in NI; they may … Continue reading Oswald Hewer Jamison – born in England?
