Update for Annie Jamison And A Picture of Her Son, William

Following up on my recent post about the two Williams (my paternal great-grandfather and his eldest son), I’ve received some great additional snippets of information for both William Junior and his mother, Annie Jamison, nee Hewer.

Death of Annie Jamison, nee Hewer

Nevin at the North Antrim Local Interest List blog sent me a copy of Annie’s death certificate, which I couldn’t locate. Annie died at Ardihannon (Dulisk), Bushmills in 1934.

Annie Jamison’s death certificate

Name: Annie Jamison, Female
Date of death: 11th April 1934
Place of death: Airdahannon
Marital status of deceased: Married
Occupation: Wife of a labourer
Age at death: 62
Registration number: D/1934/28/1005/10/380
Registration district: Ballymoney, sub district Bushmills
District of death: Ballymoney

Annie’s cause of death is listed as “Myocardial disease of the heart, eighteen months certified”, and her death was registered by her daughter-in-law, Betty Cousins, who is noted as being present at the time of death.

As my last post details, William McDowell Jamison died in 1939, so he survived his wife by five years. His son William Junior only survived his mother by a year. Nevin suggests that William Senior moved to William Junior and Betty’s house in nearby Carnside. William and Betty had married in 1921 but stayed local to William’s childhood home.

A Picture of William Junior

A couple of grandchildren of William Junior, David and Shirlene saw the previous post and provided the fabulous picture below! As David noted, the quality of the picture isn’t great, being a scan of a copy photo, but David verified with Shirlene that the man sitting right in the centre of the picture in shirt sleeves and flat cap is William Jamison Jr. The picture was taken at Giant’s Causeway, but no further details have survived. It looks like a joyful event, based on the smiling faces!

I’m no expert on fashion and costume, but it looks like the picture was taken in the late 1920s or early 30s? If anyone can confirm, I’d love to hear from you.

  1. I have an ancestor Mary Jamison who married Samuel Cleghorn/Gleghorn in 1807 at the Millrow Presbyterian Church in Antrim. Her parents were William and Eliza Jamison (nee Dempster). Would be very interested to know if our Jamison’s are related.
