Updating The Family Tree – Farewell, Aunt Hilda

Two and a half years ago I published this post about my aunt Hilda, the only Jamison sibling of my dad’s generation that I hadn’t traced. I didn’t even know for sure if she was still alive, as her last known address was in Ontario, Canada. House moves on both sides of the Atlantic meant the remaining family members had lost contact details.

While working on my Ancestry family trees this week, I came across Hilda’s obituary online. It was very hard to discover that Hilda had sadly died nearly a year ago in April 2020, after a lengthy illness at home in Ontario.

Hilda Todd, nee Jamison

Hilda was 79 when she died, and although I’m not 100% sure from the wording of her obituary, I believe she is survived by her husband and son.

Our thoughts are with Hilda’s family and friends in Canada, and with her brother, my uncle Harold, now the last surviving sibling of his generation. I’m so sad that we weren’t able to reconnect with Hilda before she died. All I can do is record her passing and update the Jamison family tree. I still hope to hear from her family and reconnect them with my uncle.

The picture above is from her online obituary, and it illustrates not only what a beautiful woman she was but also her striking “Jamison” features, shared by so many of Eliza and Fred’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. .
